IEC 63177:2024 provides a procedure for evaluating the compatibility of construction materials with electrical insulating liquids that are intended for use within electrical apparatus, including liquid-filled transformers, tap changers, capacitors impregnated with liquid, and liquid-cooled rotating machinery in electric vehicles and oil pump systems. The standard is relevant to a range of insulating liquids, such as mineral-based insulators, natural esters, silicone-based insulators, synthetic organic esters, modified esters, capacitor fluids derived from synthetic aromatic hydrocarbons, and e-transmission fluids utilized in electric vehicles and oil pump applications. It is important to note that the compatibility tests conducted in accordance with this standard are not adequate for fully certifying construction materials for a specific application unless supplementary tests are mandated by the relevant IEC technical committee or equipment manufacturers.
