The publication covers various types of self-actuated devices, including direct-acting spring-loaded valves, pilot-operated pressure relief valves (PRVs), rupture disks, pin-actuated devices, and weight-loaded pressure vacuum vents.

This publication does not cover tank weak seams, sections, or tank thief hatches, explosion doors, fusible plugs, control valves, pressure-regulating devices, integral rotating equipment components, other devices that rely on an external power source for operation, or those not designed for inspection or recertification.

The inspections and tests conducted at manufacturers’ plants, which are typically covered by codes or purchase specifications, are not included in this publication.
