The present standard API SPEC 12F:2024 pertains to freshly constructed, upright, cylindrical, above-ground, and welded steel storage tanks of standard dimensions and capacities. It outlines the necessary material, design, construction, and testing criteria, and also specifies the permissible internal pressures as listed in Table 1.
The purpose of this standard API SPEC 12F:2024 is to ensure that the oil production sector has access to tanks that are both safe and economically viable for storing crude oil and other liquids commonly handled within the industry. It is intended to facilitate the ordering and manufacturing processes for buyers and manufacturers alike.
This standard presents requirements in two different systems of measurement. Manufacturers are required to adhere to the United States customary (USC) units. For ease of reference, the metric (SI) unit equivalents are also provided.
