IEC SRD 63460:2025 This document’s focus is on evaluating the potential (or necessity) of Electric Vehicles (EVs) to function as Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) when they are connected to the electrical power system via a charging station. While it is evident that the primary reason for EVs to connect to the grid is to recharge their batteries, these vehicles are also capable of offering grid support services while connected. In certain scenarios, there may be regulatory requirements or incentives compelling them to perform these functions. The document presents Use Cases as illustrations of how EVs can contribute to DER capabilities, drawing upon the grid support functions outlined in IEC 61850-7-420, IEEE 1547:2018, and EN 50549.
