IEC 61156-15:2024 pertains to cables as defined in IEC 61156-5:2020, or cables that incorporate elements from those described in IEC 61156-5, which are essential for maintaining both circuit integrity and data transmission capabilities before, during, and after exposure to flame under specified conditions.
In addition to the fundamental cable construction, this document outlines the procedures for sample preparation, testing arrangements, and establishes performance requirements. It also provides methods for assessing data transmission capabilities during and after fire exposure, along with criteria for evaluating test results and the parameters specified in the detailed specifications.
The cables addressed in this document are designed to operate at voltages and currents typically found in communication systems. Although these cables are not intended for use with low impedance sources, such as electric power supplies from public utility mains, they are suitable for supporting low voltage remote powering applications. These cables do not have a rated voltage and are intended for extra low voltage circuits.
For the purposes of this document, the fire conditions specified in IEC 60331-23:1999 and the basic testing apparatus outlined in IEC 60331-11:1999 are applicable.
Since the test method in IEC 60331-23:1999 will not be further developed, alternative test methods may be introduced or included in future editions of this document. Additionally, IEC 60331-1 and IEC 60331-2 will be incorporated in a future revision as the standard tests for circuit integrity and the testing rig to be utilized for all evaluations.
