IEC 60034-12:2024 RLV includes both the official IEC International Standard and its Redline version, which is available only in English. The Redline version offers a straightforward way to identify and compare all changes between the current IEC Standard and its previous edition.

IEC 60034-12:2024 defines the parameters for the starting performance of eight designs of single-speed, three-phase cage induction motors operating at 50 Hz or 60 Hz, in accordance with IEC 60034-1. These motors:

have a rated voltage of up to 1,000 V;
are designed for direct-on-line or star-delta starting;
are rated based on duty type S1;
can be constructed to any degree of protection as specified in IEC 60034-5, including explosion protection.

IEC 60034-12:2024 also applies to dual voltage motors, provided that the flux saturation level remains consistent for both voltage ratings. This fourth edition supersedes the third edition published in 2016. It includes updates aligned with the requirements for explosion-protected motors from TC31 WG27, such as:

a new clause detailing methods for measuring locked-rotor current and torque;
a new informative annex outlining the general current and torque characteristics with locked rotor;
a new informative annex addressing voltage and frequency corrections;
alignment with the requirements for explosion-protected motors from TC31 WG27.
